In 2021, to replace the in-person Annual Meeting, we are happy to present our “Virtual Learning Series 2021”. Dr. Sudheendra (aka Dr. Sudi) is the Founder and Director of the DVT & Complex Venous Disease Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also an Assistant Professor of Interventional Radiology & Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania – Perelman School of Medicine.

Dr Sudi completed his undergraduate education at Case Western Reserve University and his medical education at New York Medical College. He then completed nearly a full general surgery residency at the Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University before changing his field to IR. He served as a research fellow at the NIH under Dr. Brad Wood, one of the leading IRs specializing in cancer. He then completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency at the U. of Pittsburgh Med Ctr (UPMC) where he had the privilege of doing research with one of the pioneers of IR, Dr. Mark Wholey. Later he completed a fellowship in IR at the George Washington U. Medical Center under Dr. Anthony Venbrux, one of the preeminent physicians practicing today & the former Chief of IR at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

As one of the leading experts in the country on venous disease, Dr. Sudi’s program at UPenn draws over 400 patients a year from around the globe for the treatment of venous thromboembolism. He has over a 90% success rate in treating patients affected by debilitating post thrombotic syndrome. Dr. Sudi treats the entire gamut of venous disease including:

• Acute & chronic deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Post thrombotic syndrome (PTS)
• Complex IVC filter retrieval
• May Thurner syndrome (MTS)
• Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS)
• Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)
• Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS)
• Venous ulcers

Jeannie L. Callum, MD, FRCPC, is a Transfusion Medicine Specialist and Hematologist at Kingston Health Sciences Center and Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University. She also serves as the lead for the QUEST transfusion research program at the University of Toronto and is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.

Her primary interests in transfusion medicine include error tracking, blood utilization, and the management of the coagulopathy associated with traumatic injury and post cardiac surgery. She has been involved with numerous transfusion clinical trials including ABLE, PROPPR, FIIRST, TACS, FIBRES, ROC-TXA, CONCOR-1, FARES and FiiRST-2.

Menaka Pai is an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, and a hematologist and thrombosis medicine physician at Hamilton Health Sciences. She is Head of Service for Benign Hematology at Hamilton Health Sciences, and Quality Lead for Transfusion Medicine in the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program. Dr. Pai completed her medical training at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. She holds a Masters degree in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University, and her graduate work was supported by fellowships from Thrombosis Canada and the Canadian Hemophilia Society. Dr. Pai is a member of the McMaster Centre for Transfusion Research (MCTR) and the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute (TAARI). As a benign hematologist, her clinical interests focus on thrombosis and bleeding disorders. Her research interests include venous thromboembolism, transfusion medicine, research methods in rare diseases, and clinical practice guideline development. She is currently Chair of the American Society of Hematology’s Guideline Oversight Subcommittee.
